I am a sucker for stated purposes no matter how flawed they tend to be. Mine, with regard to this blog, is likely to be somewhat contradictory but that seems right in a way. My mind is a murky and often contradictory place and it is only fitting that any expression of it reflect that.
The simple part first. This blog will be my rants and thoughts on religion and the myriad of things connected to it. Simple right? Yeah... about that... Clear or not most things are at least partially connected to religion just because of the incredibly broad blanket of a term religion has become or may have always been. Even defining religion in a way that covers all the possible forms it shows up in is tricky at best and I honestly feel that most people who have tried have failed miserably. I am not going to try and I hope how my posts relate to religion is followable.
I cannot stress how much this is about my perspective and opinions and path. Some of the things I talk about are objective truths as far as my biased little mind can tell but there will be a number of things not meant to be taken as universal to humankind. I am not a fan of the concept of things held to be universal truths as there are so few of those and most truths are much more specific to time, person and place. The things that qualify as universal truths, in my opinion, are either broad enough to permit personal interpretation or incredibly, stupidly specific enough to make useless most of the time.
My perspective, being the one I can best cover, is a Pagan one. I was raised Mormon by a family that has been Mormon for about as long as anyone in that particular faith and then tried, mostly due to a girlfriend, several different branches of Christianity. I have an interest in religion in general and have read from several traditions. I eventually found my home in Paganism and have been refining my specific path ever since. I am a solitary practitioner for a number of reasons. Several more specific labels could be applied to my personal tradition but I won't get into those. Any readers (I really don't expect many if any) will probably be able to pick up enough hints to put the pieces together.
This isn't really that much about trying to convince anyone of anything. Rather I am placing these here as I have found few if any places expressing what I intend to express. I am not trying to set up a particular tradition or following. I want people to be more personal with their religion and less groupthink about it. I want people to be a community of individuals working together for the benefit of all. Difference is beautiful. Complication is often beautiful.
